Gratitude

Piglet noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.

A.A. Milne

Gratitude turns what we have into enough.

I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.

G.K. Chesterton

How does one sum up gratitude in two quotes? Well, as you can clearly see, I didn’t. I searched and searched for just the right words to say what I felt to be true. I searched and searched for just the right photo. Time and again I found myself back where I began. Quotes about gratitude often end in love. Images that inspire gratitude are of things I love. It would do me no good to try and separate the two. They are as intricately woven together as is the most delicate lace.

I love the way…is where my writing so often begins. It is my heart’s gratitude for the everyday things and the ways of them.

I love..

..the way the breeze picks up the edges of the sheets that are hung on the clothesline to dry

..the way hummingbirds hover in sweet greeting making me feel a part of their tiny world

..the way calves are insatiably curious and begin to follow me

..the way flowers bloom..enough said

..the way autumn colors light everything in a spectacular sunset that lasts beyond nightfall

..the way Dobby looks at me with soulful eyes and waggles his short tail

..the way a crockpot does all the cooking for me on a long day

..the way a song catches in your center and won’t let go and you’re glad for it to be there

..the way Jack reminds me of a muppet

..the way pizza can have any topping you like

..the way the first cool morning after a hot summer excites like love’s first kiss

..the way Bo adores the porch but thinks the yard is made of lava

..the way children giggle..at almost anything

..the way cookies go well with cold milk or hot tea or…come to think of it, cookies go well with everything

..the way clouds make movies in the sky

..the way Ellie snuggles just because

..the way friends encourage each other

..the way a grateful heart makes us mindful of the needs of others

Gratitude is not a thing. It is a way of being. Gratitude is the way you love everything around you…and then it is the way that everything around you loves you back…

Thank you kindly for reading and for being a beautiful part of my days,

Suzanne❤️

  1. This is so lovely Suzanne. Having a gratitude practice healed my heart. It changed my life. Did you ever hear Nimo Patel’s song “Grateful”? That’s what started it all. That and a 21-day gratitude challenge on KindSpring.org. I love what you’ve written here. I love reading gratitude lists so much that I hosted 17 gratitude challenges in a row on KindSpring because everyone there wrote lists daily. It’s such a lovely way to get to know someone, and to remember why, in so many ways, it truly is a wonderful world. ♥.

    1. Hi Niki, your lovely thoughts touch me deeply. I’ve never been on KindSpring.org. It sounds like a beautiful site and I shall go visit. Are the gratitude challenges ongoing all the time? ”Grateful”, oh, it’s wonderful a song. It brings tears to my eyes and I can’t help but smile. Thank you for the reminder of it. Music is one of those things on the top of my lovely list everyday. Healing takes a long time doesn’t it, one moment and one bit of gratitude at a time. My heart is with you and I’m so happy to know you. Love and hugs 🤗❤️

      1. Suzanne yes! There are two gratitude challenges going now, one by Jo who loves Nimo’s song too. I saw him in concert and met him in DC. He’s a beautiful soul. And there’s an eco-challenge I’m hosting in response to the UN Atty General’s Peace/Earth Protection Day announcement on the 21st. So it’s really to keep notes in my inbox on how to have a greener footprint. They come as email and were written by KindSpringers — just mostly a paragraph a day. Most don’t comment on the thread but you are welcome to. And I have an Eowyn challenge pending (walking through Middle Earth) my friend and I wrote. She did Earth I did Middle Earth. Not starting until finished writing and making graphics. And being brief! But currently, we’re keeping gratitude lists there. Four a day. You are welcome to all. =) No spam ever. It’s a beautiful community! ♥.

      1. Balloons too?!!! Yowza and yippeee! I’ll take them and shoot a couple of stardust bearing dragonflies to You!!! 😃😊😅And You are most welcome! Absolutely my pleasure! ❤️❤️❤️Yes!!! Painting day! I can putter the day away…the week away staying very busy but not making time to paint! It’s the strangest thing. So a couple of weeks ago I made a schedule. And Monday everything else has to take a hike because all I’m allowed to do is paint. It’s WONDERFUL!!! And Thank You sooo much! It is a fantastic experience. Yesterday was awesome. I have 6 paintings I’m working on. I rotate randomly as I let strokes dry and things get attention depending whatever paint is left on my palette. A flurry of absolute fun, creative freedom! Things are really coming along. I’m particularly excited about my panting of Artemis. She is coming so to LIFE! magical. Almost as if she’s independent of me. Crazy cool!!! Do You make time for Your writing/photography or does it just naturally take space in Your days? I ask You the same. Everyone has such a different process. I hope You have an absolutely brilliant day!!! Happy Fall! We could actually feel a little of the coming coolness yesterday. Very welcome!!! 🤗❤️😊

      2. Stardust bearing dragonflies! I’ll be watching the skies 😃. Oh, That is Wonderful, to paint all day on Monday…you just adore Mondays! Something very much to look forward to at the start of the week. Artemis sounds magical! It’s absolutely grand when you feel them come to Life that way. You get a tingle, that is Crazy Cool!!! Then you just know. It’s all working together the way it’s supposed to. 😊. I love hearing how others make time for the things they love to do and create. These days my photography is straight on my phone which means I stop a hundred times a day because so many beautiful things catch my eye and I’m enchanted by them. This morning there was the sun coming through the woods and filling this precious spider web. It was positively lovely! I will absolutely not tell how many photos I currently have…it’s embarrassing 🤣. I get up early every morning and write by hand in a spiral notebook. If any thoughts feel right I’ll transcribe them into notes on the tablet. Then I head out on morning walk and that’s when the thoughts play and settle. I’m constantly jotting more notes in my phone. I love when I can go home and tidy it up right then and add photos. But that doesn’t always happen and it has to wait. I have so much writing in waiting 😃. But that’s ok too. My favorite time to write is in the morning. Thank you!! Hope your day was brilliant too!! Happy Fall!!! 🤗❤️😊

      3. How wonderful! You’re like an ever rambling brook of creativity!!! Babbling Your art/expression throughout the day, every day, as You go! How lovely! That’s great that You capture things all the time with Your camera. One of my sisters is like that. I admire it!!! ❤️We trip out over the beauty of early morning, dew laden, sun beaming through spider webs as well. Gorgeous. Pretty mind blowing, aren’t they?!! Thank You for sharing this! It’s fun to know Your process and then see Your magical offerings. A gift!!! Cheers and wishes for a superelasticbubbleplastic rest of the week!!! 😅Sending hugs Your way! 🤗❤️😊🌙🦋

      1. Bo was a stray before he found me. I can tell he was outside only back then. Once he discovered the joys of indoor life…there was no going back! Aren’t they delightfully funny when they’re like that 😄
