One cannot blame the water for doing what water does

Anymore than one can blame the fire
All things of this world are simply what they are
They come and they go
Seeking solace and balance,
Their own sweet place in this odd turn of events
That we call life
Letting go of all they are not meant to be
To be only what they are
Fire will never be water
Air will never be earth
And me…
I am a piece of them all
I am the wind that blows, thoughts drifting through my mind
I am the land, a dusty shell that walks the path only for a while
I am the fire, created in a moment of passion,
Seeking to feed the flame
I am the water, life giving and nourishing,
Deeper than can be seen
I am all of these, and spirit as well
The breath that comes from somewhere
The knowing that comes from nowhere
And if one by one they each left me…
What would I be then
Would I be anything at all
Or would I vanish in a flash
Buried in the dust
Drowned by the water
Burned within the flame
Carried unseen by the wind
To a new place
Not even imagined yet…

      1. Why I have not been online, my hard drive failed and I lost a lot of my work so I am trying to salvage what I can.{ am due for a triple heart bypass any time so my energy is at an all time low, but hopefully by about February it will be business as usual.

      2. Oh, when you hadn’t been writing I had hoped that you had already had your triple bypass and were recovering. I’m so sorry you’re still waiting! I can see why your energy would be so low. And losing so much of your writing, that is horribly disheartening! I do hope that it can be recovered. I’m fairly hopeless with technology so I’m not certain how to go about something like that. It really did brighten my day to hear from you. You are missed here. My thoughts are with you for good and beautiful days to be near for you. Take good care, suzanne 🌷

  1. Suzanne… your water runs deep, your fire ignites the freeze, your air permeates everything, your earth is the one remaining… the questions you ask, the answers you give… these, we could all sing. You, and this poem, are amazing.

    1. Lia…thank you. These thoughts Are as much yours as mine, or anyone’s. Although I wrote in first person, my hope is that others would know and find a hope of their own. I’m so grateful that you have found something in them. With hugs and a grateful heart to you ❤️

  2. Dear Suzanne, I really enjoyed reading this…I love the compassion and acceptance that shines through, and how everything seems to have its right place in the order of things, and, at the same time, its limitations. A great way to look at things, and also loved how you evoked a sentiment of oneness/ everything flowing together as “I am all of these”… such depth and knowing here…thanks so much for this! Much love and hugs xx ❤️

    1. Dear Maria Elena, you live these words. I may never ride an elephant or dance at brekky in a far away exotic place…but because of you …I do. I’m more grateful than you can imagine. Life feels so small sometimes. When we share well with one another it takes on a richness and depth that lightens our journey and gifts us with joy. Thank you my sweet friend for all that you are and all that you give! Much love and hugs ❤️xx

  3. I enjoyed read This. I enjoyed thinking about it, even more. It’s a thoughtful read, one that allows you to drift and agree and then pulls you up and makes you wonder. What would be left? A speck of life in a snowflake? A world inside that dust? Beautiful ideas. 💕💕

    1. Thank you Rory 😊. I’ll go check it out. I’ve been out in the garden today, tending a fire and cleaning up some things and a good long walk in the woods under clouds cold skies. A very nice way to begin the new year. Hope your day has been lovely. 😊🌷

  5. If I could stand more like the mountains than the tower blocks –

    breathless at my own rising…

valleys chopped rich and soft and misty in these reds and greens…

thick rugs of moss, knitted between streams, and fine green curtains, draped between the trees…

land that splits and heaves like waves, then settles on a form, a cliff-face much like an elephant, drinking the wetlands through its pebble-peppered trunk…

I thought about just saying “hi”…

but I figured you might want something a bit more visceral, woven as you are.

Thank you for sharing your textures.

      2. I stole that word! 🤣Gosh…back in the 1970s there was this “toy” product that was goop in a tube. You wadded it up like gum and stuck it on the end of a straw and blew. It made really funky, kindof psychedelic huge bubbles that then You just pinched off. But that’s what it was called. And at the end of the commercial the kids would very enthusiastically shout, “Superelasticbubbleplastic!!!” like it was the most fabulous thing in existence!!! It’s never left my mind. 😃🌀🦆❤️😅

      3. I remember that commercial and that stuff!!! I had forgotten about it! I thought it looked so cool and wanted some but never got any. 🤣. My mother probably had visions of it being sticky everywhere 🤣. Thank you for the laughter and the trip down memory lane. ….superelasticbubbleplastic Katy!!! 🌀🎶🦋😜❤️

      4. You didn’t miss much! I think we were all given some at a birthday party once and I remember it being fun trying but not one of us were able to blow a great big ball like in the commercial! Ours were malformed and dinky! 🤣But it was still….and YES….it must be said….superelasticbubbleplastic trying!!! 🤣🤗❤️🐬🦆! I hope You have a wonderful week, Suzanne!
