On long days

Or short ones

On up days

Or down ones

It is to the simple cookie

That I humbly go to call

It is the luscious cookie

For which I giddily pause

Chocolate chip and

Moeller’s

Sandies too

Oatmeal pecan or

Lacies

Nearly any kind will do

Quite easily,

One of the world’s most perfect foods

Yes,

I confess,

I’m rather biased

In their favor

In their hearty flavor

But what would you have me do

I cannot possibly stop at one

Nor can I even stop at two

I have long been known

To make a meal of them

An in between of them

When time is short

And the chips are down

On goes the apron

As away runs the frown

Sugar and butter, well creamed

Eggs and vanilla, broken and streamed

A dash of soda, a pinch of salt,

Cups of oats, morsels of chocolate

Flour heaping…

Pecans lightly chopped

The mixer revs up

Into a mighty thunderous stirring

Then, to the sheets and such delicate drops

Into the oven

Dial up the heat

The waiting is hardest….

When?

Oh when?

Will the cookie’s be complete!

Warm from the oven

Baked with such care

They’re at their bestest best

When I can reach out and share

I stand by my motto

So strong and so true

When things are bad and getting worse

Keep a cookie in your purse

Or your lunch box

Or your favorite Snoopy jar

Anywhere works

When cookies are involved

Because, it’s a well tested

Matter of fact

There is no day

In the history of ever

That by a cookie

Wasn’t made better

Do you feel it now

Do you…

Please tell me you do

The overriding

Overarching

Ode comes to rest

A nibble of this

A nosh, more than a notion

A dream within a dream

With ice cold milk

Or steaming hot coffee

Can you think of anywhere

You’d rather be

Than here for a moment

Savoring cookies and sipping on tea

My “fevered” thanks to Rory for the inspiration to write about cookies in this time of staying at homeness! 😊

Keep well, safe and smiling!

  1. Yum! Cookies and dogs, two of my favorite things! (Waits for inevitable comment that adding poetry creates doggerel.) The food photos were enticing but I have to admit to pedestrian tastes – my fave is a good oatmeal & raisin cookie, the fat and chewy variety, please. Quite frankly, your poetry inspired me. Normally, I sit down wait until that feeling goes away, but not this time:

Max and I both love cookies
We’ll do tricks to get one that’s warm
We’ll both sit or lie down
    And we’ll never frown
‘Cause they’re better than Netflix or porn.

Sorry about that. Now, go give those good doggies their share of the cookies!

    1. Oatmeal raisin like you described are fantastic. Please don’t be sorry. I’m So glad you gave in to your inspiration! You gave me a fantastic chuckle 😂Thank you! Now I’m off to bestow cookies to the pups. If I leave out the chocolate chips, Ellie loves oatmeal cookies as much as I do 😊

      1. You did! But then a bad limerick is only good if it’s bad 😂🙃. Oh yeah, Dobby. I must go find him. It’s the time of year when he’s vigilantly watching for signs of baby bunnies in the yard. Ugh. Hoping Mother Rabbit has her babies elsewhere this year!

  2. I was sad reading this. Since the demise of my cookie scoop, I haven’t made real cookies. I’m still crushed by not having one. I know, cookies can be made with spoons. Used to do that all the time, but after using a scoop….I’m spoiled! I’m not sure if I shared that dilemma here.
    I do make bar cookies!

    1. I remember you mentioning your poor scoop. It made me sad. Like you I used to always use spoons but once I got a scoop, life changer. Have you searched online for a new one. I definitely think you should treat yourself to one. I know how much you love to bake. It’ll take a while to get used to the new one but you deserve it! 💝🍪 oh and bar cookies, Yes! Can’t leave them out 💞

      1. I was pretty impressed. I ordered a couple of books in between books I already own and am reading many of them. One I just finished is at the post now and I don’t think I’ll wait to read it on Sunday! OH! The best thing happened last evening. A friend GAVE me a cookie scoop identical to the one I had.

      2. Emojis are kind wicked mysterious that way. I’m convinced that we’re returning to a time of hieroglyphics and that one day soon we’ll all have to take a class to learn them in like, kindergarten. We’re going back to ancient communication skills. Then sometime in the future people will look upon this and think….what does that mean??? In the future there will be experts who study and decipher our hieroglyphic conversations. Epic. If I tried to tell a whole story with them, what would people see?? 🤣🤣🤣 Doesn’t it make you feel mysterious?? Have a super power day Katy!! 🤗🤣💝🍪🥳

      3. Oh, that’s too funny, Suzanne!!! I bet You’re right. I love watching documentaries and can just picture a very cool, serious anthropologist holding up the emoji’s and telling us about the culture and what it all means. 🤣And now, YES! Yes it does make me feel mysterious! Thank You fo this….Mwah ha ha ha ha! I SHALL indeed have a super power day! You too!!! 😁🍪(i copied and pasted Your cookie! 🤣)❤️🌀🤗

      1. Good choice! I shared your blog on Twitter with my 4 followers so now it will REALLY take off. XD I would love to illustrate this because I think my granddaughters would love hearing it. They love baking with their mom (my daughter). I’ve been reading stories to them at night (for them, they’re in the UK). It’s been so fun! =) It have to order more kids’ books and finish my own kids’ stories, but a cookie story would be easy to finish. What do you think? =) If you want to reach out to me my favorite music is -jazz- and my favorite name is -Tizz- and I am on -g♂- =) ♥.

  4. Oh the cookies. Come to me. Its time for me to eat. Craved more and for more in each line. The temptation is aroused with an ecstasy. Losing words just to figure out how exactly can I grab them all from the images you have clicked. Alas, i would fail. Asking for just one of each filling, please. 😁 🍪😋
